| Notes |
- Baptised as the son of Richard, weaver, & Ellenor, Barnsley, on the same day as brother John.
1861 census: although William and Ann SCHOLEY were married on 8 April 1860, it seems that Ann had had a daughter, Mary, in late 1858, and that for some reason, William and Ann were living at different places when the 1861 census was done:
1. at 4 Eldon Street, Barnsley, William ELLISON (marr, 26, linen hand loom weaver, born Barnsley) was boarding with George & Mary SCHOLEY), their daughter Eliza (1) and George's mother Mary SCHOLEY (widow, 50, born Barnsley).
2. at 17 Spa Terrace, Barnsley
(1st household) John ROOKE (head, 23, coalminer, born Worsboro', Yorkshire), Margaret ROOKE (wife, 22, power loom linen weaver, born Wombwell, Yorkshire)
(2nd household) Ann SCHOLEY (head, married, 24, born Barnsley) and Mary SCHOLEY (daughter, 2, born Barnsley).
1871 census:
1. at 19 Scholes St, Barnsley, John FAWCETT (head, married, 27, colliery carpenter, born Knaresboro', Yorks), Sarah A FAWCETT (wife, married, 26, born Barnsley), William R FAWCETT (son, 2, born Barnsley), Jane A FAWCETT (daughter, 3 months, born Barnsley) and William ELLISON (boarder, married, 32, linen weaver, born Barnsley).
2. at 31 Heelis Street, Barnsley, Ann ELLISON (head, married, 33, linen weaver, born Barnsley), George ELLISON (son, 1, born Barnsley) and Mary SCHOLEY (daughter, 12, born Barnsley). Also a boarder, John BURKES (unmarried, 27).
1881 census:
1. at 9 Smithy Green, Monk Bretton, Yorkshire, John FAWCETT (head, married, 38, carpenter, born Knaresboro', Yorks), Sarah A FAWCETT (wife, married, 37, born Barnsley), William R FAWCETT (son, 12, scholar, born Barnsley), Jane A FAWCETT (daughter, 10, scholar, born Barnsley),Hnery FAWCETT (son, 8, scholar, born Barnsley), Elenor FAWCETT (daughter, 6, scholar, born Barnsley), Frances FAWCETT (daughter, 4, born Barnsley), Alice FAWCETT (daughter, 1, born Barnsley) and William ELLISON (boarder, married, 45, linen weaver, born Barnsley).
2. at 31 Heelis Street, Barnsley, Ann ELLISON (head, married, 43, linen weaver, born Barnsley) and John BARKER (boarder, single, 39, coal miner, born Barnsley).
1891 census:
1. at 39 Race Common Rd, Barnsley, Yorkshire, (all born Barnsley) John WALKER (head, widower, 36, coal miner), Mary E WALKER (wife, married, 33), 4 WALKER children, and William ELLISON (boarder, married, 55, linen weaver, born Barnsley).
2. at 41 Heelis Street, Barnsley, John BARKS (head, single, 49, miners labourer, born Heanor, Derbyshire) and ANN ELLISON (servant, married, 53, housekeeper, born Barnsley).
1901 census:
at 1 Gt Afton St, Barnsley, Yorkshire, (all born Barnsley) John WALKER (head, married, 46, coal miner (heaver)), Mary E WALKER (wife, married, 43), 3 WALKER children, and William ELLISON (visitor, widower *, 66, factory lab, born Barnsley).
* William's wife died in 1897. It seems he and Ann never lived together.
William died in 1908: according to John J Minter "William was buried with his sister and brother - in - law (my Ancestors John and Elizabeth Minter) in Grave 561, Barnsley Cemetery. He was buried on the 10th of April, 1908, aged 73. He died in the Union Workhouse."
