THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., Feb. 23, 1923, p. 5, cols. 5-7 [edited]. OBITUARY. It is appointed unto all men once to die and this announcement send a shudder throughout the whole race of mankind. The black camel must sooner or later kneel before every home. It matters not under what conditions the grim messenger may come - his coming is met with but few welcomes. James Cleveland Minter whose tragic death was previously reported, was the son of Luther T. and Susan A. Minter. He was born on April 8th, 1885 at Irisburg where he resided with his parents until he was sixteen years of age, when the family moved to Martinsville. Here he attended public schools and later engaged in the garage business as a mechanic up until the time of his marriage. He was united in marriage with Annie Purcell in 1905. To this union one child was born, Howard. Until recently he was a member of the local police force and was regarded in many was as a most capable officer. His funeral was conducted from the home with burial in the city cemetery. Mr. Minter left to mourn his loss, his wife and son Howard, his mother, Mrs. Susan Minter of Martinsville, also three brothers and three sisters, Frank of Roanoke, Sterling of Winston-Salem, Dr. Calvin of Greensville, S. C., Miss Susie Minter of Mt. Airy, N.C., Mrs. Virginia Christman of Pen Mar, Penn., Mrs. J. M. Worth of Credo, W. Va. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. J. C. Mohr of Chatham, an uncle of the deceased, Mrs. Annie Norman, Mrs. Georgia Smithson, Miss Ruth Black and W. S. Shelton of Reidsville, N.C.
THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., Feb. 23, 1923, p. 1, col. 4 [edited]. The funeral service of James C. Minter, who died Monday morning from the effects of bullet wound received last Sunday afternoon about one mile south of Martinsville, was conducted from the home on College Street Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in Oakwood Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Purcell Minter; one son, Howard Minter; and his mother, Mrs. Luther Minter, all of Martinsville, and also by three brothers and three sisters, Messrs. Frank Minter of Roanoke, Sterling Minter of Winston-Salem, N.C., Dr. Callvin Minter of South Carolina; and Mrs. Virginia Christman of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Cora Worth of West Virginia and Miss Susie Minter of Mt. Airy, N. C. By ADA DYER.
