Notes |
- Parish Register shows Phineas was baptised in 'Februerie' 1566/67 as Phinyas Munter (entries at Feb 2, 9, -6 and -3. Date damaged by stain from damp). Parents names not stated.
However, information at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com tells a fuller story. I haven't tried to substantiate the following:
"Phineas Munter was born in Dover, England. He was christened on 23 Feb 1566/1567 in St. Mary the Virgin, Dover,England. He died on 9 Sep 1620 in Buckland, England. He was buried in Buckland, England.
[Phineas's parents were] possibly John Mynter born in of Saint Saviour's, Southwark, Surrey. He died in 1585. He married poss Margery."
The source speculates that John Mynter "was probably the son, or grandson, of Dutch immigrants to Dover. A John Mynter "from the domain of the emperor" was naturalized 16 September 1549 (Patent Rolls)."
The same source says that Phineas had siblings:
Elizabeth Munter who married Edward Powell on 6 October 1584.
Henry Munter who married Sarah Baker on 10 January 1583/83 in Folkestone.
Phineas was a blacksmith of Buckland next Dover.
Phineas's second marriage took place at St Paul Canterbury (as 'Phinis Minter to Elizabeth Johnson of ye towne of Dover, by licence') but was also recorded at St Mary Dover (as 'Phineas Mynter and Elizabeth Johnson, by licence at Canterbury'). The month of marriage was probably May (the licence was issued at Canterbury on 27 May 1605 and they were married at St Pauls Canterbury on the same day) although the typed copy of the St Mary Dover register says April.
He was buried as Phineas Mounter (this entry from the Consistory transcripts. The register is damaged between May 1620 at the foot of one page and May 1622 at the beginning of the page that follows).
Administration of goods granted to Elizabeth his relict on 21 November 1620 at Canterbury Consistory Court.
